The Hardanger fiddle has been called Norway's national instrument. Smaller than a standard violin it is also strung to facilitate the playing of multiple strings simultaneously in such a way that the strings themselves create their own reverb.
Annbjorg Lien has become an international ambassador of Hardanger , weaving Norwegian, Celtic, jazz, and avant-garde musical styles in her solo work as well as with her band Bukkene Bruse who played at the 1994 winter Olympics in Lillehammer and as a member of The String Sisters with Catriona Macdonald from Shetland, Liz Carroll and Liz Knowles from America, Mairead ni Mhaonaigh (Altan) from Ireland and Emma Hardelin from Sweden.
Her newest project, Waltz with Me, commissioned for the prestigious Telemark Festival includes Bruce Molsky on violin and vocals, Christine Hanson on cello and Mikael Marin on viola.
