There can’t be many bands who can lay claim to have cornered the market in cinematic roots funk, but the Angel Brothers can. Their first new album in four years, ANGEL BROTHERS marks a return to the roots of this highly original band, with the founding members Keith and Dave Angel working closely together on nine sparkling new compositions and recordings. The Angel Brothers have established themselves as one of the most innovative and hard working bands on the World Music/roots circuit. The band’s unique sounds marries their love of composers Lalo Schiffren, Ennio Morricone and David Axlerod with Latin, Indian and African percussion, acoustic and electric guitars, Hammond organ, piano and English folk fiddle.
ANGEL BROTHERS reflects their boyhood passion for cinema and the self-penned tracks echo with the soundscapes of fellow Yorkshireman John Barry, spaghetti western maestro Ennio Morricone and Carnivale composer Jeff Beal. Throughout, the irresistible Angel Brother’s Anglo/Asian groove is, of course, still very much present and this, combined with serious musicianship and a myriad of cultural influences are what set the Angel Brothers apart. The album features contributions from Jim Lockey - bass, Andy Seward (Kate Rusby) - double bass/ electric bass; Indian vocalist Sandhya Sanjana and long–time associate Mick Humphrey. Dave Formula (ex of cult post punk band, Magazine) also makes a cameo appearance on keyboards, and Jayne Cooper and Richard Masters add atmospheric vocals.
