OCTOBER 12TH, 2016, LOS ANGELES, CA: Peruvian born, Los Angeles based performer, songwriter, producer, bandleader, mentor, and force of nature, Cecilia Noel announces the release of a video for her version of the 90s Divinyls’ classic “I Touch Myself” to coincide with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The track was featured on Noel’s 2015 Cubadisco Award winning release HAVANA ROCKS, a collection of American hits she recorded in Havana with an all-Cuban band.
“I did this video to honor Chrissy Amphlett’s memory, the beautiful singer-songwriter of this song and of the Australian group Divinyls, who died of breast cancer in 2013. I recently met Karina, a brave young woman who went through a double mastectomy. In hearing her story, I wanted to remind and urge women of all ages to touch themselves, do regular check ups, dance, eat healthy, love and live fully.”
The song “I Touch Myself” was part of a worldwide campaign in 2014 – the #itouchmyself project – in which artists from around the world came together to create a version of the song in tribute to singer Chrissy Amphlett, using the song’s memorable lyric to remind women that regularly touching themselves looking for anomalies is their most powerful cancer protection tool.
Noel’s beautiful video, which features women of all shapes and sizes painted in white and covered in flowers was created by Peruvian director, Piero Pereira. It’s a wonderful example of the artist’s work, known around the world for his photographs of women painted and decorated with flowers and other natural elements.
The video will be shared on social media along with a call to action asking for women to visithttp://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/breast-cancer-awareness-month to download their Breast Health Guide that includes detailed instructions for self examination.
