Eddi Reader calls for "Peacetime" - Out on Compass Records!
February 20, 2007
"Reader has one of those Midas touch voices that transmutes into gold almost every note it touches...hear her and rejoice.- Entertainment Weekly
"Peacetime is a very calm experience where the songs are given room to breathe." - BBC, Folk and Country Review (UK)
February 20, 2007 - (Nashville) - Glasgow native Eddi Reader’s rare blend of meltingly true vocals and towering romanticism combine with an astute and pragmatic nature to make her a unique and powerful figure in contemporary British music. Whilst the perfection of her technique is widely acknowledged, what sets this former Fairground Attraction vocalist apart is the depth and quality of the emotional performance; her ability not only to move the listener but to connect her experience to that of her audience.
, Reader makes a plea to seek out balance and harmony when times of struggle and heartache arise. Deftly produced by the young, renowned Scottish fiddler John McCusker (Battlefield Band, Kate Rusby Band), and featuring Reader’s longtime musical collaborators Boo Hewerdine and John Douglas, the musicians on Peacetime read like a who’s who in the world of traditional folk music: Ian Carr (guitar), Phil Cunningham (accordion), Michael McGoldrick (flute) and Donald Shaw (harmonium/wurlizter). Compass Records’ Alison Brown special guests on the US version’s bonus track "Ontario". Highlights include "Prisons", a folk-pop cover of a Trashcan Sinatras prayer for forgiveness, the inspiring and soothing title track, "Peacetime" and "Safe Houses", Reader and Hewerdine’s response to London suicide bombers. "It amazes and relieves me that intense hate, although incredibly destructive, can also encourage great and intense love."Peacetime
