Nicki Bluhm Premiers “To Rise You Gotta Fall” Music Video on Nashville Scene

Nicki Bluhm shared her video for the title track of her new album, TO RISE YOU GOTTA FALL, at the Nashville Scene. Directed by GRAMMY™ Award-winning songwriter Scott Sax, the video finds Bluhm putting together pieces of her new life by acquiring items on Craigslist, visiting different neighborhoods and local thrift shops and meeting some of the locals in her adopted hometown of Nashville, TN. The track was premiered online recently at Rolling Stone, which hailed the song as “a blast of Memphis soul.” The album wil be out June 1 on Compass Records.

Bluhm wrote the life-chronicling songs for TO RISE YOU GOTTA FALL over a tumultuous two-year period during which she got divorced and moved from the Bay Area to Nashville. The album is a chronicle of her state of mind following these deep and fundamental life changes. After six years of constant touring with her band The Gramblers, which included ex-husband on keyboards, she needed to find herself musically as a solo artist. Recent high-profile collaborations with Phil Lesh, The Infamous StringDusters and Ryan Adams helped to pave the way for her musical recovery, and discovery.

Bluhm finds her new home town to be an additional source of inspiration.  “Nashville was inspiring because of all the songwriting going on here”, she says. ”When I would come to Nashville on writing trips it was just percolating…it was intoxicating. So I very hastily, in a matter of days, decided to move. I just had this gut feeling.”
