February 5, 2021: Peruvian-born singer Cecilia Noël celebrates the kinship she feels with her Topanga Canyon neighborhood with her new video and digital single, “Famosa en el Barrio,” available today on all digital service providers. Noël, a member of Colin Hay’s band and his wife, assembles a group of Cuban and American musicians on this “salsoul” (her term) track. From the L.A. scene she’s enlisted Charlie Paxson (drums), Yosmel Montejo (bass), Scheila Gonzalez (sax), San Miguel Perez (tres, guitar and congas), Eric Jorgensen (trombone) and MCs Jonn Piazza and Deploi to add spice to the track. From Havana, Cuban group Sintesis contribute backing vocals (recorded in their local studios) and are joined by other Cuban musicians including renowned percussionist Luis Conte (Shakira, Santana, Madonna). (For full credits check the video on Noël’s facebook page HERE).
Talking about the inspiration for the track, Noël says: “I wanted to pay homage to our Barrio, to our beautiful neighbors. We are surrounded by beauty and love. From Topanga Days to Café Mimosa and The Canyon Bistro, Topanga has always opened its arms to my music and creativity. This is my home!”
Passionate, flamboyant, and impressively talented, Noël has become a favorite of Latin music aficionados in the know. Her charismatic stage presence, sweet and sassy vocals and high-energy live performances have earned her critical acclaim and a steadfast following.
From her early years performing on a children’s TV show in Lima, Peru, to her New York City years — Stan Getz saw her in her native country and brought her to NYC — to her current life in California, she’s established a career as an exciting entertainer and vocalist who embraces jazz, salsa, rock and Afro-Cuban styles and rhythms. Noël has released several albums on Compass Records including her most recent Havana Rocks which received critical acclaim and won the Cuba Disco award in 2015 with her Compass Records album HAVANA ROCKS.
